BTS Releases New Music Video for ‘Fake Love’

BTS is back. The worldwide phenomenon of Korean pop have returned with a new album and dropped a new music video for “Fake Love,” an emotionally charged and dance-heavy track. The popular South Korean septet released the video on May 18, which is for the lead song off their new album “Love Yourself: Tear.” Within an hour, the video broke records by surpassing one million views and is already passed 24 million.

BTS consists of seven members, including RM(formerly known as Rap Monster), J-Hope, Suga, V, Jin, Jimin, and Jungkook. The boy band, also known as the Bangtan Boys or the Bulletproof Boy Scouts, have been the first K-pop group to successfully chart in the United States, with their second album, Wings, peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200 music charts.

The group also charted on the Billboard Hot 100, with their track “DNA,” which peaked at number 67 and exploded their fanbase. BTS first formed back in 2013 in Seoul, Korea and is signed to BigHit Entertainment.  The band is known for their ability to sing and dance live and made their award show performance debut at the American Music Awards last year. Since their debut, the group has sold over 5 million albums worldwide.

The band is scheduled to perform the new track “Fake Love,” live at the Billboard Music Awards on May 20. The video incorporates the album’s overall theme of loving yourself, and the intense imagery backs up the heartfelt lyrics while moving through Inception-like rooms and spaces.

BTS’s popularity is growing so rapidly that the group is breaking records they set with the release of their previous record “Love Yourself: Her” in 2017, and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres liked their fan attention in America to the arrival of The Beatles.  The group is also unique because they became popular almost overnight overseas, while slowly growing a loyal legion of fans in their native South Korea, known as ARMY.
