Chilling Siren Used To Signal Curfew In Louisiana Town

Residents of Crowley, LA, recently felt like they were characters in a horror movie sequel from the ‘Purge’ franchise.

The Louisiana city recently enacted a curfew in an effort to help flatten the curve of COVID-19. As a way of alerting its residents to the curfew, which goes into effect a 9 pm EST each evening, the city’s police department chose to sound a siren.

However, many of Crowley’s city residents found that the siren sounded a little too familiar. In fact, it was very reminiscent of the siren used in the movie franchise Purge.

Many fans may remember that the horror film had a plot of all residents of the US, once the siren sounded, had 24 hours to commit any crime they desired, even murder, with no involvement from law enforcement.

A post made on the Facebook page for the Crowley Police Department was reported by the local news station, KATC, as having been deleted. The post had reportedly 500 comments of residents asking officials why the siren was even necessary.

It seems that the Acadia Parrish Sheriff’s Department also reported receiving numerous complaints about the siren as well.

In a statement issued by KP Gibson, the sheriff of Acadia Parrish:

“Last night a ‘Purge Siren’ was utilized by Crowley Police Department as part of their starting curfew.”

Gibson when on to add that his office had received numerous complaints as many residents believed the sheriff’s office was involved in the incident.

He assured residents that his office was in no way involved with the decision to use the ‘Purge Siren’ and would, in fact, never use a siren for this purpose.

Jimmy Broussard, police chief of Crowley, stated that he was not aware of the fact that the siren was connected in any manner to the film. He also said that from this time forward, they would discontinue the use of a siren to signal curfew.
