With the rising costs of food and that cost only going even higher, most of us are finding that we are needing to make the most of leftovers.  This means the occasional freezing of said leftovers. 

However, if the process is not done correctly, many of us find that the leftovers are not appealing and may end up in the trash.

Freezer Temperature Is Crucial

The primary reason for freezing food, whether it is leftovers or not, is to prevent or at least slow down the potentially hazardous growth of bacteria and other such foodborne illnesses. 

The first step in preserving any type of food is providing a safe place in which to store it.  For this reason, freezer temperatures must remain at 0 degrees or lower to be most efficient.

To maximize the freezing of leftovers and other such foods, the use of the proper type of container is the primary key. 

Such choices as those containers termed freezer safe, as well as freezer-safe zip-top bags, are suggested. 

These types of items are constructed to better withstand both the cramped and the cold arctic kind of environment of your freezer.

Many people do not realize that certain food types free better than others. 

Those include such varieties as chopped meats, casseroles, pizza, soup, and baked goods. 

Those types of foods that prove not to freeze well are those such as uncooked meats, tuna, and pasta salads.
