Natures Self-Replicating Wonder Plant

Not only is it one of the easiest to grow houseplants out there, and it can decorate a kitchen shelf like nobody’s business, but this quiet, graceful plant is nature’s own self-regenerating first aid kit.

In case you haven’t guessed it yet, I am referring to the aloe vera plant.

Aloe vera plants are naturally native to the southern region of Africa.  The plant itself, made up of fleshy leaves, contains a multitude of plant compounds of antimicrobial, pain-reducing, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory by nature.

For at least 6,000 years, the plan was used for a medicinal basis, and as such, it spread throughout the world to be included in the medicinal practices of such empires as that of Egypt, Rome, Greece, and Persia, among others.

Evidence gathered by the scientific community supports the use of the jellylike substance inside the leaves of the plant for helping with the alleviation of pain, as well as working well in the topical treatment of burns, abrasions, bruises, boils, and sores.

The substance has also been known to aid in the treatment of minor frostbite.  Some swear by it for the use in dental hygiene and as a general conditioner to aid in the treatment of dandruff.  The substance is also tauted to help the discomfort of a sunburn when applied topically.

If you find yourself wanting to engage in the use of Aloe vera, it is quite a simple process.  Simply pick one of the leaves from an Aloe vera plant, and then slice it open down its longer side.

You will then either squeeze out the jellylike contents and apply where desired, or you will lay the leaf flat open and then onto the area where needed, bandaging it lightly in place.

When applied topically, Aloe vera presents with no known serious side effects.  It is worth noting some individuals have stated that they have experienced a slight allergic reaction.
