The COVID-19 pandemic has placed a lot of film releases in jeopardy. But some films seem to still be on track for a holiday release. As of this writing, Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune, the iconic sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert, is still on track for a Christmas release. Whether it’ll keep that slot remains to be seen as numerous films are pushing back further into the schedule, as with the likes of No Time To Die and Soul heading for November release dates.
We were supposed to get a sneak peek of the first footage of Dune at a convention last month but that doesn’t appear to be the case now. That being said, the first few images from Dune have finally debuted and showcase a number of actors from the massive and all-star ensemble. The images feature the likes of Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Timothée Chalamet in the lead role of Paul Atreides. In these first stills, we can see just how the likes of the planets of Caladan (home of the house Atreides will appear) as well as Arrakis (the planet of the desirable spice). You’ll also be able to see how the costumes look as well as gain a sense for Villeneuve’s tone, which predictably will be a gloomy and grand vision akin to the dark fantasy nature of the novel.

Dune will hopefully be hitting theaters on December 18th, 2020.
